The Irish Alt-Pop Singer-Songwriter Miranda Faul Talks To Us About Her Recent Growth, Touring Europe, Her Candid Songwriting, Her Upcoming EP “The Bar is in Hell,” and Its Lead Single, “Favourite Friend.”

When we last spoke with the Irish alt-pop singer-songwriter Miranda Faul in January 2025, she was gearing up for the release of her debut EP, Rise & Run. Since its release, Miranda has had no time off. Last year, she was constantly touring Ireland, and even travelled to the UK and Netherlands for some headline shows.

“I had a busy year, last year, of gigging,” Miranda told Post-Burnout when we spoke again this year. “I did a little tour, but I don’t know if I’d necessarily pinpoint it coming from anything from the EP.

“Like, I feel this year, nice, new things have been happening for me, but I’m not sure if I’d necessarily direct it to that EP release; I think it’s more of a gradual build.”

Known for her frank and candid lyrics, Miranda admits that she finds some of the songs off Rise & Run to be a little difficult to return to, even just a year-and-a-half after it dropped.

“I just don’t listen to some of them!” Miranda says of Rise & Run’s tracklist. “The main one, ‘Rise & Run,’ that’s about childhood things. I just pretend it’s not out there [Laughs], because I think if I really think about family or people listening to it, it would weird me out. So, it’s easier to just not listen to it, but I’m glad that it’s there, because I know it’s a song that I cared a lot about.”

Less than a year after her debut EP, Miranda began penning its follow-up, The Bar is in Hell, towards the end of 2025. Between January and February, she worked with her longtime collaborator, producer Cian Sweeney, to turn over the material as a collective piece.

“This is the first time that I’ve started it as an EP, from scratch,” Miranda says of the process of making The Bar is in Hell. “Like, my first EP was all singles, and then I put it together with the last single as an EP.”

As a rising TikTok creator who has been gaining traction on the platform through the sincere and, at times, vulnerable dissections of her love life, Miranda has found kinship with other women on the app who have had similar modern dating and relationship woes. These collective experiences have influenced the EP’s concept.

“‘The Bar is in Hell’ is a song on the EP,” Miranda says. “That’s where I got the title from. If you listen to my songs, you won’t be surprised to know that it’s about dating. I was texting one of my friends once about some person that I was dating, and she was like, ‘Oh, my God! The bar is so low, it’s in Hell!’, and then I was like, ‘Oh! I want to write a song called “The Bar is in Hell!”’ So, that song is about the dating bar being very low, but not all the songs on the EP are romantic songs; but that’s kind of the vibe.”

While the release date for The Bar is in Hell is yet to be announced, its lead single, “Favourite Friend,” is out tomorrow. “It was around Christmastime that I was putting together the songs that I wanted on the EP, so that was one of the five,” Miranda says of choosing the track as the first taster.

“And when I began working with Cian, the producer, on it in January, I was saying that I wanted to do something a bit more dark, and experimental, and dynamic than my other songs. I worked with my guitar player, too, and I think that was the one that went the farthest out of my comfort zone.”

Describing the track, Miranda says, “When I sat down with Cian on the first day, he asked me what it was about, and I said, at first, that it was a song about being in a casual situation, or a friends-with-benefits situation, with someone you kind of want to see again, and it’s casual, but it’s not.

“But then I realised, as I was describing it, it’s more about pretending to be casual, and there’s this big crash out in the middle-eight that’s actually like, ‘What the hell’s going on here?!’, which I think is quite true to a lot of situations that I’ve been in! [Laughs]”

While 2025 may have been Miranda’s busiest year thus far, the rest of 2026 doesn’t see much rest for her. At the end of the month, she will make her Electric Picnic debut at this year’s edition. In September, she’ll support the American folk songwriter Kate Stephenson at Upstairs at Whelan’s. In October, she will perform as a showcase artist at this year’s Ireland Music Week. And, to finish off the year, she will embark on a month-long tour of the UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands to support the longstanding experimental tradhouse Irish trio Chasing Abbey in November.

“I’ve a busy period ahead, with Ireland Music Week and getting ready for that, and pushing each song on the EP as far as I can,” Miranda says of the remainder of her year. “I feel like it’s hard to look past this year, because I want to push each single really hard, and just see how far I can grow my following, and my streaming, and, if possible, to have a team at some point.”
