Dave Lightfoot, the vocalist and guitarist for the British post-punk band The Fades, answered some prompts sent to serve as a brief primer to the uninitiated for his band.
We are The Fades. We are Dave Lightfoot on vocals and guitar, James Lightfoot on bass, Jonny Barnard on guitar and Al “Flash” Thorpe on drums.
Our story began….
…with London-based brothers Dave and James Lightfoot, lifetime school friend Jonny Barnard and Alastair “Flash” Thrope. With a true punk DIY aesthetic, the band recorded their debut single in a flat above a chip shop on Staines Road. It was picked up by national radio in the UK and quickly generated a buzz around the band. Following some explosive gigs in London and a tour of the UK with Art Brut, we garnered a reputation for blistering live shows and mayhem, including a penchant for multi-band clothes swapping on stage. This coincided with a couple more successful singles and a mini-album, which were all regularly playlisted on radio and featured in TV shows and publications across the world. After eventful tours around the UK, Ireland, Italy, and a big festival in Tbilisi; US indie label Cranky Girl Records discovered the band and we went out to New York and the East Coast to tour, release some records in the USA and hone our already renowned live set with a whirlwind of gigs, parties and scintillating scotoma.
We were inspired by…
Faith No More, Nirvana, and Queens of the Stone Age.
We would describe our music as…
Fusing post-punk, garage rock and quirky indie to capture the sometimes manic and sometimes reflectively inspiring nature of modern life.
A song that we would recommend to newcomers is…
“Night Terrors”
Our biggest achievement as a band thus far is…
Writing, recording and releasing our new album, Night Terrors, and getting it fully funded and then some on Kickstarter and being able to get it pressed onto green vinyl.
What we have planned for the future is…
We’ve got a few singles planned for 2023, a tour, festivals and more gigs. Hopefully looking to get a big single launch party in London in the middle of the year
